Will Poulter is set to star in and executive produce “Beat the Reaper,” a new dramedy ordered by Apple TV+. The series is adapted for television by Sam Catlin, who will also serve as showrunner and executive producer. Apple Studios and New Regency will act as co-studios on the project.

Poulter, a BAFTA Award winner and Emmy Award nominee, is known for his work in “Black Mirror” and “The Bear.” In “Beat the Reaper,” he plays Dr. Peter Brown, a medical intern working at Boston’s worst hospital. Brown has a clear talent for medicine and is trying to get through a brutal shift, but his life inside the hospital is only part of the story.

The Apple TV+ series is based on the novel of the same name by Josh Bazell. At its core is a man trying to keep his past buried. That effort collapses when a patient recognizes Brown from a dangerous former life he would rather forget. The recognition turns an already punishing hospital shift into a fight for survival.

From that moment, the story becomes a race against time. Brown has eight hours to avoid capture and stay alive. During that window, he must elude the government, mob hitmen, quack surgeons, and a trail of dead gangers. The pressure builds as multiple threats close in, forcing Brown to rely on his intelligence and instincts to escape.

Sam Catlin brings extensive experience to the adaptation. His previous credits include “Breaking Bad,” “Preacher,” and “Sugar.” Catlin executive produces the series under his overall deal with Apple TV+, guiding the creative direction of the project.

New Regency is a key production partner on “Beat the Reaper.” Arnon Milchan, Yariv Milchan, and Natalie Lehmann will executive produce for the studio. The series is produced alongside Apple Studios, continuing Apple TV+’s focus on original scripted programming driven by strong creative teams.

“Beat the Reaper” blends medicine, crime, and dark comedy within a tightly defined timeframe. Anchored by Will Poulter’s lead performance, the Apple TV+ series centers on one man’s attempt to survive a single shift that spirals far beyond the walls of a hospital, turning routine exhaustion into a life-or-death ordeal.
