BMG pays tribute to the late legendary songwriter and composer Burt Bacharach who passed away at the age of 94 on February 8, 2023.

Known for his acclaimed catalog featuring hundreds of compositions, Bacharach collaborated on many of them throughout his career with BMG publishing client and renowned lyricist Hal David – a songwriting partnership that would go on to cement them as two of the most important composers of the 20th century.

Meeting at the famed Brill Building in 1957, Bacharach and David teamed up to write their very first hit song ‘The Story of My Life’ which became a Number One hit in both the US and UK. Throughout the 1960s and early 1970s the duo wrote some of the most enduring songs in popular music including ‘Do You Know The Way To San Jose’, ‘I Say A Little Prayer’, ‘Magic Moments’, ‘Raindrops Keep Fallin’ On My Head’, ‘(There’s) Always Something There To Remind Me’, ‘This Guy’s In Love With You’, ‘Walk On By’, ‘What The World Needs Now (Is Love)’, and ‘Wishin’ And Hopin’’, among many others.

Among the numerous honors the duo shared together include Academy Awards and Grammy Awards, with David and Bacharach being awarded the 2011 Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, bestowed by the Library of Congress, the first time a songwriting team was given the honor.
