Joaquin Valdes
(from The King & I website)

We received a Facebook blessing recently as Joaquin Valdes shares Narnia photos from the production of “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe” in the UK. The show, currently in previews at the Bridge Theater, released production images (as seen in theater website, What’s On Stage) shared by Valdes in his personal FB account.

Valdes is not part of this show but is currently in the international touring production of “The King and I” as Lun Tha cover. When he was a kid, he played the role of Edmund in the original Filipino musical adapted by Luna Griño-Inocian and Jaime del Mundo from the same C.S. Lewis novel.

The photos by Brinkhoff Moegenburg is bringing a lot of memories of the local production which had several stagings in Manila. It launched the careers of other successful performing artists including Paolo Valenciano, Crisel Consunji, and Sam Concepcion.

Valdes’ FB post is getting the attention of Filipino Narnia fans online. Local thespians, as well as Griño-Inocian, shared the same post. As of this writing, people from the industry are now saying that the show should be restaged in Manila anew.

The Off-West End’s “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe” is put together by The London Theatre Company through special arrangement with Elliott & Harper Productions and Catherine Schreiber. It brings back the original Leeds Playhouse creative team of director Sally Cookson, Rae Smith, writer in the room Adam Peck, movement director Dan Canham, lighting designer Bruno Poet, sound designer Ian Dickinson, and composer Benji Bower. It opened on November 9, 2019 and will run until February 2, 2020.
