When beleaguered by grief and guilt, where do you draw strength to carry on with your sworn duty as a senior frontliner? The country’s one and only superstar Nora Aunor, is featured in ‘Lola Doc’, a monovlog by Layeta Bucoy. Scheduled to premiere on Tanghalang Pilipino (TP)’s online project “PansamanTanghalan”, the monovlog is in celebration of the multi-awarded actress’ birthday this May 21. It talks about the pains of losing one’s husband in the middle of a pandemic, remaining strong for your family, and courageously facing the risk of being stricken by this deadly virus to attend to the sick. Will everything she has sacrificed be worth it?
“Isang napakagandang akda tungkol sa ating mga bagong bayani, ang mga doctors, at ang kanilang mga sakripisyo,” says Nora, who is making an online debut via this monovlog. “Naka-ilang beses ko rin akong take sa monovlog bago maging satisfied sa aking nagawa.”
Nora admits that it is not easy making a scene by herself, but this challenge is really one of the most painful points of the material – the agony of facing the pandemic alone.
The superstar expresses gratitude to TP Artistic Director Nanding Josef, who performed the well-received “Lolo Doc” monovlog, for inviting her to be “Lola Doc.”
Aunor adds that this participation is her contribution to the local arts scene, which was affected severely by the pandemic.
Layeta Bucoy initially explored the monovlog form with Uleb Nieto and Bicol-based theater group Sining Banwa led by Sari Saysay.
“Lola Doc” will premiere on at the official Youtube channel of Tanghalang Pilipino this May 21, 2020, 6:00PM.
“PansamanTANGHALAN” is supported by the Cultural Center of the Philippines, OKADA, Asian Institute for Distance Education and ABS-CBN’s ticketing platform KTX, Island Rose, Cocolife, AIDE, and OKADA.
