After the soaring success of “Mabining Mandirigma,” Tanghalang Pilipino (TP) stages Katsuri, a timely drama about friendship and survival based on the John Steinbeck classic “Of Mice and Men.” This production is adapted and directed by the indefatigable wife-husband tandem of writer Bibeth Orteza and director Carlos Siguion Reyna.

This anticipated drama is topbilled by Jonathan Tadioan (Toto) and Marco Viaña (George), two of the most seasoned members of TP’s Actors’ Company (AC).

Written in part Hiligaynon, “Katsuri” tells the harrowing fight for survival of the Sakada (sugar plantation) workers in Negros, and how it tends to destroy lives and the people’s spirits, including families and friendships.

“This play will show how authentic human relationships can evoke change, not just in our personal lives, but also in our society,” says TP Artistic Director Nanding Josef. “Aside from that, the play tackles the timely topic of inequality, known but often overlooked.”

Tata Nanding also hopes that through “Katsuri,” the audience will develop a genuine concern to their fellow Filipinos – just like the friendship of Toto and George.

“Katsuri” also features other AC members – Antonette Go, Lhorvie Nuevo, JV Ibesate, Doray Dayao, Ybes Bagadiong, Eunice Pacia, and Manok Nellas.

Guest actor Fitz Bitana is also part of the cast.

Rounding the cast of “Katsuri” are two theater stalwarts Michael Williams and Nanding Josef, both playing special roles.

“Katsuri” runs from October 4-27 at the Tanghalang Huseng Batute of the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

Tickets are available at the CCP Box Office, Ticket2Me, Bliimo and all Ticketworld outlets.  For bulk or show buying, please contact 0999-8843821.
