Tony and Grammy-winning Hamilton star Renée Elise Goldsberry is turning the page to a new chapter in her career: releasing her debut solo album. Titled Who I Really Am, the album arrives June 6 and marks the Broadway icon’s first major project as a singer-songwriter.
Known for her powerful performance as Angelica Schuyler in Hamilton, Goldsberry has captivated audiences with her voice, charisma, and emotional depth. Now, she’s stepping outside the theater to tell her own story—through 13 deeply personal tracks that explore love, heartbreak, motherhood, identity, and resilience.
“I’ve waited a long time for this,” Goldsberry says. “I’ve had the honor of performing incredible songs written by others, but now I finally get to share my own.”
The album includes original songs Goldsberry has written over the years, as well as a reimagined solo version of Hamilton’s “Satisfied.” In this new take, she performs every part herself, offering a fresh and intimate perspective on the song that helped define her career. “It’s a song at the speed of her brain,” says Lin-Manuel Miranda. “She’s insane.”
Who I Really Am reflects Goldsberry’s journey beyond the stage. Inspired by artists like Sarah Vaughan, James Taylor, Whitney Houston, Chaka Khan, Luther Vandross, Aretha Franklin, and Joni Mitchell, her music crosses genres—just like her career. From soul to pop to classic singer-songwriter territory, the album is a blend of styles and stories that speak to who she is, not just as a performer, but as a person.
The title track came from a moment of reflection in church. They were introducing her, reading her bio, and she didn’t recognize herself. It left out all the hard things she’s been through—like her miscarriages, the struggles. That’s when Goldsberry realized we often hide the most defining parts of who we are. This album is about telling the full story.
Tracks like “Twinkle,” written for her daughter, and “You Can Do Anything,” written for her son, reflect the powerful role motherhood plays in her creativity. “Sometimes the best way to teach your kids is through a song,” she says. “It lives in their subconscious.”
Goldsberry also shares stories of heartbreak and growth. “I Met Someone” tells the story of finding the courage to leave a relationship that wasn’t right. Another track, “Don’t Want to Love You,” was gifted to her by Girls5Eva co-star Sara Bareilles. “She just gave it to me,” Goldsberry says.
The album has been four years in the making. With Hamilton’s Disney+ release bringing her voice to a new global audience, she felt the time was finally right.

Though she’s moved into TV and film—with roles in Girls5Eva, She-Hulk, and more—music has always been at the heart of her artistry. Storytelling is what she does and music is the most personal way to do it.
