Lip Sync Assassin, the dynamic short film from the Philippines, has made a major splash at the CinePride Film Festival 2025, earning an impactful double win for Best Director and Best Lead Performance. Premiering at the festival in Los Angeles from September 11-14, the film was the only Filipino entry in a prestigious lineup of global LGBTQIA+ films, proudly representing the Philippines on the international queer cinema stage.

Lip Sync Assassin Triumphs at CinePride 2025

Starring Drag Race Philippines Season 1 winner Precious Paula Nicole, Lip Sync Assassin tells the gripping story of Sampaguita, a fierce drag queen who secretly moonlights as a contract killer to support her family. When she encounters Rudy, a mysterious man played by Argel Saycon, her carefully constructed world begins to unravel. In just 20 minutes, the film delivers an emotionally charged story about survival, sacrifice, and identity, all set within the vibrant world of Filipino drag culture.

“I’m so proud that we’re the only film representing the Philippines. I raise the Philippine flag with pride,” Precious shared, filled with gratitude as the film garnered recognition from international audiences. Beyond CinePride, Lip Sync Assassin has also been selected for the 29 Queer Palms and Gay Queer Film Festival, continuing its journey across global queer film circuits.

For director Jon Galvez, Lip Sync Assassin represents a milestone for Filipino drag artistry. “We made this film because Filipino drag deserves to be seen in mainstream media, not just in bars or drag shows. We’re thrilled that Sampaguita’s story is reaching audiences worldwide,” Galvez said.

With its captivating storytelling and standout performances, Lip Sync Assassin is already being hailed as a turning point in Filipino queer cinema. Precious Paula Nicole expressed hope that this recognition will further elevate Filipino drag and queer talent in the international film world. “I’m manifesting that this becomes a full-length movie. Sampaguita’s journey deserves to be fully explored,” she said.

Lip Sync Assassin will also be featured at Sinag Manila 2025 from September 24-30 at various locations across the Philippines. This victory is a moment of immense pride for Filipino cinema, as Lip Sync Assassin continues to blaze a trail for Filipino queer talent on the world stage.
