Songs for a New World, the iconic song cycle by Jason Robert Brown, is celebrating its 30th anniversary with a star-studded concert at London’s Eventim Apollo on September 21, 2025. The event promises to be a theatrical highlight of the year, featuring Broadway legends Shoshana Bean (Mr. Saturday Night, Hell’s Kitchen), Tituss Burgess (Oh, Mary!, The Little Mermaid), Jordan Fisher (Dear Evan Hansen, Moulin Rouge! The Musical, Sweeney Todd), and Joy Woods (Gypsy, The Notebook), all under the musical direction of the man behind it all, Jason Robert Brown.
First performed in 1995, Songs for a New World was the debut of Brown as a composer and lyricist. The groundbreaking song cycle explores powerful moments of decision and change through a range of memorable characters. It premiered Off-Broadway at the WPA Theatre before making its UK debut at the Bridewell Theatre in 2001. The show even had a brief but magical return to London in 2020, with two special concerts at The London Palladium.
For the anniversary concert, Brown will be conducting Songs for a New World live for the first time, bringing his original vision to life once more. Fans can expect an unforgettable evening of music, emotion, and stunning performances from some of Broadway’s biggest stars. The 1995 cast featured Brooks Ashmanskas, Andréa Burns, Jessica Molaskey, and Billy Porter. The 2018 Encores! Off-Center revival also brought together a talented cast, including Shoshana Bean, Colin Donnell, Mykal Kilgore, and Solea Pfeiffer.
The creative team that brought Songs for a New World to life has been key to its success, and Brown, who is known for Parade, The Bridges of Madison County, and 13, is thrilled to return to the show that launched his career. The 1995 production featured a band with Randy Landau (bass), Tom Partington (drums), Joe Reina (keyboards), and percussionists Warren Smith and Rob McEwan.
Presented by Lambert Jackson Productions and Positive Sum, the 30th anniversary concert will take place at 3 PM and 7:30 PM, with tickets already available.
