Two icons of American counterculture—Von Dutch and Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum—have joined forces for a limited-edition headwear release that nods to tattoo tradition and superstition. The “Lucky 13” collaboration has launched globally on VonDutch.com, offering two bold trucker baseball caps inspired by the flash tattoo scene that surrounds Friday the 13th.
The launch falls on an ominous date—Friday the 13th—often considered unlucky, but in the tattoo world, it’s a day for celebration. Thousands line up at shops across the globe for small, symbolic tattoos drawn from traditional flash sheets. This ritual of ink and luck has become a cornerstone of modern tattoo culture.

Von Dutch and Sailor Jerry aim to bottle that spirit with a pair of co-branded trucker hats—one in lavender, the other in tan. Each cap features original Sailor Jerry flash art, a nod to the legacy of tattoo legend Norman “Sailor Jerry” Collins. Both hats come with black mesh backs, embroidered Von Dutch patches, and custom branded trims.
“Sailor Jerry is a true American original, just like Von Dutch,” said Meryam Khodja, brand director for Von Dutch, owned by WSG Brands. “This collaboration is a must-have original creation for the rule-breakers, the risk-takers and true fans of each brand. It’s about making your own luck on a day most consider unlucky. The perfect contradiction that is very Von Dutch.”
The flash tattoo tradition tied to Friday the 13th dates back decades but was popularized in the 1990s by tattoo artist Oliver Peck. Offering cheap, quick tattoos of black cats, skulls, and daggers, the event became a rite of passage for many first-timers and a fixture for collectors.
This capsule merges that rebellious ethos with Americana fashion. With its roots in hot rod culture and its flair for defiant design, Von Dutch provides a fitting canvas for Sailor Jerry’s iconic flash art.
