The world premiere of “We Aren’t Kids Anymore”, a new one-act musical by acclaimed composer and songwriter Drew Gasparini, was held on April 28, 2025, at the Savoy Theatre in London. Gasparini—known for his work on NBC’s “Smash”, the stage adaptation of “The Karate Kid”, and “It’s Kind of a Funny Story”—brings a deeply personal and contemporary voice to this new production.

The show explores the emotional complexities of growing up—what it means to dream big, stumble, and keep going. Told through five versions of one character, “Drew,” the musical reflects on identity, ambition, and the lifelong process of figuring things out. Each version of Drew represents a different stage of life, experience, and perspective.

The cast features an outstanding ensemble: Aimie Atkinson, Melanie La Barrie, Dylan Mulvaney, Jenna Lee-James, Nigel Harman, and Cassius Hackforth—each taking on the role of Drew. In the world premiere’s second act, Gasparini himself stepped on stage for a special concert performance, sharing highlights from his career alongside guest stars Jeevan Braich (“WhatsOnStage Award winner”), Andrew Kober (“Beetlejuice”, “School of Rock”), and Tony Bayliss (“We Will Rock You”, “Tommy”).

The event attracted a strong showing of theatre talent and industry names including Michael Pickering (“Jesus Christ Superstar: Live Arena Tour“), Daisy Twells (“Heathers the Musical”, ), Lewis Cope (“Emmerdale Farm“), and Rachel Lopez.

Joaquin Pedro Valdes (“Heathers”, “Miss Saigon”) on an Instagram post, expressed his enjoyment at the musical’s world premiere, praising the incredible songs and cast. He also congratulated director Jake Smith, movement director Chris Cuming, and choreographer Buchanan Bronia.

Also in attendance were “Strictly Come Dancing” stars Carlos Gu and Katya Jones, adding red carpet sparkle to the night.

We Aren’t Kids Anymore is a powerful exploration of the challenges and triumphs of growing up. With its relatable themes, unforgettable songs, and an exceptional cast, this show is for anyone who has ever dreamed, struggled, or wondered what it truly means to become the person you’re meant to be.
