Amidst the threat of Coronavirus, British-American fashion icon, journalist, and editor Anna Wintour joined by the entire American Vogue, pledges to #stayhome.

In her bylined article in Vogue.com, she writes that like many people, she too has been adjusting to a different reality brought by the COVID-19 pandemic— keeping up to date through the news; joining Zoom meetings with colleagues; brainstorming ways to help the fashion industry; reading a novel, watching a movie, or TV series; and calling family and loved ones.

More importantly, the Vogue EIC urges everyone to do the simple thing that she does: She has been staying at home.

She says, “There is no more important rule for all of us to follow. We must, right this moment, pledge to stay in our homes as much as we possibly can. There are, of course, health workers, emergency-response personnel, grocery store employees, and others whose essential jobs we depend on. And they must go out to perform these life-saving tasks.” However, for everyone else there is no debate or discussion. Everyone must stay in their respective homes. Wintour adds, “Yes, venturing outside for exercise is fine, as long as we do it safely and follow the guidelines to keep our distance from others. Social distancing is the only way to slow the spread of the coronavirus, and to protect those who are most vulnerable to it”.

News about Americans partying in Miami, Florida during their spring break enraged the public due to the insensitivity. One of the spring breakers, Brady Sluder said “If I get corona, I gert corona. At the end of the day, I’m not gonna let it stop me from partying. We’ve been waiting for Miami spring break for a while. We’re just having a good time. Whatever happens, happens”.

Wintour was shocked by the images of Americans on crowded beaches partying on their spring break. She says, “even if you are young and healthy and consider yourself invulnerable, you are not. And the Americans around you certainly are not. Leave the beaches and self-isolate. The latest news out of Italy shows small signs of hope and tells me all of us must unite as a nation to ensure that we slow the spread of this terrible virus.”

This prompted Wintour to urge people to join her in a pledge that every single one at Vogue is also making: “Stay at home. There is no more valuable action you can take.”

With the enhanced community quarantine now on its second week in the Philippines, it may be difficult to resist the urge to go outdoors. But if you too want to smart up and make a heroic act, make that pledge, share on your social platforms and caption with a 🌹to pledge to #StayHome. It will definitely help save lives.
