Fashionistas look forward to the Met Gala, an annual event that takes place on the first Monday of May. Stars in various industries don their fabulous apparel based on a given theme. The theme for 2020 is was supposed to be “About Time: Fashion and Duration.” This year’s gala and the Costume Institute Exhibition is postponed due to the global COVID-19 crisis. Vogue Magazine, in an effort to commemorate the event, asked stars to create Met Gala-themed playlists. Listen to them below:

Sam Smith
Sam Smith was going to have their Met Gala debut this year but the universe had other plans. The playlist that they created includes selections by Celine Dion, Feist, George Michael & Mary J. Blige, Destiny’s Child, and Madonna.

Janelle Monáe
Janelle Monáe wore a Christian Siriano confection at 2019’s Met gala. And because she knows how to party, her playlist begins with Pharrell’s “Frontin'”. The party goes on with songs by iconic artists including No Doubt, Prince, David Bowie, and Stevie Wonder.

Sarah Jessica-Parker
Sarah Jessica Parker says that her playlist is “A diverse list of singers and songwriters from countless decades—some songs not big hits, but they remain on my list, always and forever.” It includes “Ain’t No Sunshine” by Bill Withers, “I Look to You” by Whitney Houston, “Gonna Make You Sweat” by C & C Music Factory, and Broadway classics, “At the Ballet” from Chorusline, and “And I Am Telling You I Am Not Going” from Dreamgirls.

Spanish singer Rosalía was going to the Met Gala for the very first time this year. She said, “This playlist is a celebratory playlist for the Met, with nods to my all-time favorite songs, sounds, artists, and references. It has not been possible to celebrate the Met as God intended, but we can celebrate it in our own way from home. I have done it by creating this playlist with Japanese, flamenco, baroque, folk, and hip-hop themes…well, everything I like most is in there. Tonight, serve looks to go to the dining room, and while you prepare, you can have a listen to this—kisses.”

Kacey Musgraves
Kacey Musgraves who arrived at last year’s Met gala sporting a hot pink Barbie look, says that her 22-song playlist is composed of songs that are timeless to her. “They define the eras they were created in, but the eras they were created in are mostly undetectable. These are songs that I never get tired of hearing, and all have my favorite quality: a foot in the future and a foot in the past.” It starts with “Stayin’ Alive” by Bee Gees but you’ll also find “9 to 5” by Dolly Parton, “Smells Like Teen Spirit” by Nirvana, “Yellow” by Coldplay, and “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen.
