Nearly two decades after it became a cultural phenomenon, The Devil Wears Prada is officially getting a sequel. Disney has announced a release date of May 1, 2026 for the highly anticipated follow-up to the 2006 fashion comedy.
While fans are eager to see the original cast return, no actors have been officially confirmed. Last year, reports suggested that Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt would reprise their roles, but nothing has been finalized. Stanley Tucci, who played fan-favorite Nigel, recently told Variety that he’s aware the project is in development and would be “so happy” to return if it moves forward. “It was one of the best experiences ever,” he said.

The original film, based on Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 novel, followed fresh college grad Andy Sachs (played by Anne Hathaway) as she navigated the cutthroat world of fashion journalism. Streep starred as Miranda Priestly, the icy editor-in-chief of the fictional Runway magazine, with Blunt as her sharp-tongued assistant, Emily Charlton.
According to early plot details, the sequel will explore Miranda’s struggle to stay relevant in an era where traditional print magazines are on the decline. Meanwhile, Emily has risen to become a top executive at a luxury brand whose advertising money Miranda needs.
Though it’s still unclear who will return, excitement is building. Both Tucci and Blunt have expressed interest in reuniting, and fans are hoping to see familiar faces back in their iconic roles.
