Sphere Entertainment Co. (NYSE: SPHR) and WaterTower Music have released The Wizard of Oz at Sphere: The Soundtrack, featuring the original film score re-recorded for the immersive Sphere experience. The album also includes a never-before-heard a cappella version of Judy Garland singing Over the Rainbow.
The reimagined score was created by separating the original vocal stems and re-recording the Academy Award-winning orchestral music. While the orchestral score is newly recorded, Garland’s iconic vocals remain untouched. This allows fans to hear Over the Rainbow in isolated a cappella for the first time.

“I am incredibly excited for everyone to hear my mother’s a cappella recording of ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow,’ which captures her incredible artistry at 16 years old. Since she recorded this song live in front of the orchestra, this is the first time anyone has been able to hear her isolated vocal,” said Lorna Luft. “This a cappella version highlights not only her incredible ability as both a singer and actor, but also how she brilliantly internalized the lyrics of E.Y. Harburg and the music of Harold Arlen. This song meant so much to her that it became her much loved, legendary, signature song.”
To preserve the authenticity of the original 1939 score, the music was performed by an 80-piece orchestra on the historic scoring stage. Musicians used period-accurate techniques, from pizzicato strings to vibrato phrasing, and even played the original ocarina from If I Only Had a Brain.
Inside Sphere Las Vegas, audiences experience the music in full spatialized 3D sound. “At Sphere, audiences hear and experience the beloved score like never before – and now they can take a part of that experience home with them,” said Carolyn Blackwood, Head of Sphere Studios.
The soundtrack also includes binaural tracks for Cyclone and I Am Oz, recreating the immersive in-venue experience for listeners at home. The creative team behind the project includes Grammy- and Academy Award-nominated talents Julianne Jordan, David Newman, Paul Freeman, and Shawn Murphy.
The Wizard of Oz at Sphere: The Soundtrack is now available digitally, allowing fans worldwide to enjoy Judy Garland’s legendary vocals and the newly re-recorded orchestral score.
