Gavin Creel’s final work, WALK ON THROUGH: Live at MCC, is now available to stream in major music platforms. Captured live during the show’s sold-out Off-Broadway run, the album is a celebration of the Tony and Olivier Award winner’s artistry, spirit, and unforgettable voice.

The musical began as a simple dare. After living in New York City for 20 years without ever stepping foot inside The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Creel was invited to create a new piece inspired by the museum’s legendary collection. That visit sparked WALK ON THROUGH, a vibrant, pop-infused journey of discovery.

Featuring 16 original songs, the show explores what it means to be fully alive. Inspired by The Met’s galleries, it takes audiences on an emotional walking tour through love, loss, and the universal threads that connect us. Directed by Linda Goodrich with music direction by Madeline Benson, WALK ON THROUGH ran at MCC Theater from November 13, 2023 to January 7, 2024.

On the first anniversary of Creel’s passing, Sara Bareilles—who co-produced the album—shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram:

“Today is a tender day. But a beautiful one. We are remembering our Gavin Creel and his wild, playful, untamable, love of life and art and people and on and on and on. It is a tremendous honor to be a part of the team bringing you the album for his final work: @walkonthroughmusical. This has been an amazing labor of love from so many incredible people whom Gavin loved so much. Hours and hours and months and months of fine-tuning and mixing and prepping and meetings and all in the name of our boy. Please enjoy this extraordinary offering, and conjure him by listening to his incredible artistry. Love to all, and love you, Gavin.”

Creel passed away on September 30, 2024, following a sudden battle with metastatic melanotic peripheral nerve sheath sarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer. He was 48.

The album is produced by Madeline Benson, Chris Peters, and Sara Bareilles, with additional production by Scott Wasserman. It was mixed by Meg Toohey and mastered by Fred Kevorkian. The cast includes Sasha Allen, Madeline Benson, Gavin Creel, Chris Peters, Corey Rawls, Ryan Vasquez, and Scott Wasserman.
