Apple TV+ has released a first-look clip from Mr. Scorsese, a five-part documentary series directed by Rebecca Miller, set to premiere globally on October 17. The series offers an in-depth portrait of Martin Scorsese, one of the most influential filmmakers in modern cinema.
The newly released footage highlights a pivotal moment in Scorsese’s career — the struggle to preserve the director’s cut of Taxi Driver. The clip features Scorsese alongside longtime friend Steven Spielberg, as they reflect on the risks taken to protect what would become a landmark film in American cinema.

“This project is a filmmaker’s dream, to have had such access to legends of the industry, from Marty himself to his prolific collaborators, close friends and family members,” said Miller. “I was honored he trusted me to create this documentary, which I believe will resonate with everyone from dedicated Scorsese fans to anyone who has grappled with failure and reached for stars.”
The series traces Scorsese’s life and work from his early student films at New York University to the present. It explores how his personal experiences and upbringing shaped the recurring themes in his films, including questions of morality, identity, and the human condition.
Mr. Scorsese features exclusive access to the filmmaker’s private archives and is built around extensive interviews with Scorsese himself. The series also includes never-before-seen conversations with a wide range of collaborators and admirers, including Robert De Niro, Leonardo DiCaprio, Daniel Day-Lewis, Steven Spielberg, Jodie Foster, Sharon Stone, Margot Robbie, Cate Blanchett, and Mick Jagger.
The documentary is produced by Expanded Media and Round Films, with Miller, Damon Cardasis, Cindy Tolan, Rick Yorn, Christopher Donnelly, and Julie Yorn serving as executive producers.
