‘Wishbone’: Conan Gray Finds Clarity in Chaos on New Album

Conan Gray has never been one to hold back — but on Wishbone, he’s not just wearing his heart on his sleeve. He’s dissecting it, rebuilding it, and singing it back to us in 12 tracks that feel like diary entries soaked in heartbreak, youth, and late-night revelations.

After years of touring, fleeting hotel stays, and writing in the cracks between chaos, Gray reemerges with Wishbone, his most intimate and unfiltered release to date. “Over the past two years, I’ve been secretly writing songs… I didn’t tell my friends. I didn’t tell my label,” Gray admits. “I didn’t know I was making anything, and I had no plan to release any of it.”

That raw, no-plan energy pulses through the album. It’s unpolished in the best way — honest, exploratory, and quietly fearless. There’s no attempt to fit in. Instead, Wishbone carves out its own strange, soft universe — a place where vulnerability isn’t weakness but the whole point.

Opening with “Actor,” Gray sets the tone with theatrical disillusionment. “Vodka Cranberry” is a synth-laced, glitter-drenched cry on the dancefloor. “Connell” nods to the quiet yearning of Normal People. And then there’s “Caramel” — a slow-burning, visually lush standout with a new music video directed by Danica Kleinknecht, produced by Iconoclast and Side Label, and shot by Emerson Duggan. It’s dreamy, dizzy, and devastating.

“I started to need the music,” Gray explains. “It became an egregiously niche soundtrack to our own lives in real time, singing just for us.”

And now, it’s here for all of us.
