The 78th Cannes Film Festival has officially concluded, with French actress Juliette Binoche leading the jury that awarded top honors among the 22 films in competition. Joining her were notable figures from global cinema, including Halle Berry, Payal Kapadia, Alba Rohrwacher, Leïla Slimani, Dieudo Hamadi, Hong Sangsoo, Carlos Reygadas, and Jeremy Strong.

The Palme d’Or went to Un Simple Accident by Jafar Panahi. Joachim Trier won the Grand Prix for Affeksjonsverdi (Sentimental Value). The Jury Prize was shared between Sirât by Oliver Laxe and Sound of Falling by Mascha Schilinski. Brazilian director Kleber Mendonça Filho was recognized as Best Director for O Agente Secreto (The Secret Agent), which also earned Wagner Moura the award for Best Actor. Best Screenplay was awarded to Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne for Jeunes Mères, while Nadia Melliti won Best Actress for her role in La Petite Dernière, directed by Hafsia Herzi. A Special Award was presented to Bi Gan’s Kuang Ye Shi Dai (Resurrection).

In the short film category, the Palme d’Or was awarded to I’m Glad You’re Dead Now by Tawfeek Barhom. Adnan Al Rajeev’s Ali received a Special Mention.

Under the Un Certain Regard section, La Misteriosa Mirada del Flamenco by Diego Céspedes was named the top film. The Jury Prize went to Un Poeta (A Poet) by Simón Mesa Soto. Arab and Tarzan Nasser won Best Directing for Once Upon a Time in Gaza. Frank Dillane took home Best Actor for Urchin, directed by Harris Dickinson, and Cleo Diára won Best Actress for O Riso e a Faca (I Only Rest in the Storm) by Pedro Pinho. Best Screenplay went to Pillion by Harry Lighton.

The Caméra d’Or for Best First Feature was awarded to The President’s Cake by Hasan Hadi, with a special mention for My Father’s Shadow by Akinola Davies Jr.

In the student competition La Cinef, First Summer by Heo Gayoung from South Korea’s KAFA won First Prize. The Second Prize went to 12 Moments Before the Flag-Raising Ceremony by Qu Zhizheng from China’s Beijing Film Academy. The Third Prize was shared between Ginger Boy by Miki Tanaka from Japan’s ENBU Seminar and Winter in March by Natalia Mirzoyan from the Estonian Academy of Arts.

CST honored technical excellence with its award for Best Artist-Technician going to Ruben Impens (cinematographer) and Stéphane Thiébaut (sound mixer) for Alpha, directed by Julia Ducournau. The CST Award for Best Young Female Film Technician was presented to Éponine Momenceau, director of photography for Connemara by Alex Lutz.

The 2025 edition of the Cannes Film Festival celebrated a diverse range of voices, styles, and stories, with many emerging talents standing shoulder-to-shoulder with global auteurs.
