Following its well-received debut in 2024, Samalamig Cold Readings returns with a new lineup of scripts and a fresh featured performer. The event returns on May 14, 2025, at 9 PM at Vault Speakeasy Bar (inside Tittos Latin BBQ and Brew, Greenhills), continuing its mission to spotlight emerging playwrights and give audiences a unique, fresh theater experience.

After its first season featuring Gawad Buhay Outstanding Male Lead Phi Palmos, this second run brings in theater actress, Gab Pangilinan as the featured artist.

The triannual Samalamig Cold Reading unfolds in two acts: the first showcases cold readings of three selected one-act scripts, with audience members randomly invited to read alongside the featured artist. The second act presents a short play by an acclaimed playwright, such as Carlos Palanca Hall of Famer Guelan Luarca or award-winner Dustin Celestino.

This season features three new scripts selected from an overwhelming number of submissions:

  • “Apat na Kaluluwa” by Bea Nicole Abelinde
  • “Maaga Pa Tayo Bukas” by Ross Manicad
  • “Untop” by Daniel Augusto

In the first act, the selected one-act plays are read onstage, with audience members randomly chosen to read roles alongside the featured artist. In the second act, a short play by a seasoned playwright—such as Guelan Luarca or Dustin Celestino—is performed.

The event is produced by thespian Gelo Esperanzate and Carl Cuevas of PopQuizPH.
