Idol Philippines finalist and iDolls member, Matty Juniosa releases his first-ever single “Sayaw ng Mga Tala”. On the eve of its launch, PalabasTayo interviewed the viral singer to get his thoughts on his new song under Star Music. Below is our online conversation:
What is “Sayaw ng Mga Tala” about?
It is loosely inspired by the Chinese Drama “A Love So Beautiful” about two perspectives of two people who love each other stating their differences. But as I interpreted it, it felt to me as a love letter to anyone about how you accept them despite everything they think you won’t love them for.
Who composed the song and what’s it like working with her?
Danielle Balagtas wrote the song for Himig Handog. We never actually met, but we did get her approval for me to sing it and she was excited. I hopefully, did her song justice even with some of the melody changes I made.
Do you have any peg or artistic inspiration for this song?
I was very much inspired by Billie Eilish since I think she’s one of the best newer artists of this generation.
Is this going to be part of an album?
Just a single. The album has yet to come but I am writing a couple of other songs to hopefully come after this one. There’s a line up of future songs that Star Music has set for us iDolls.
How would you describe the song in terms of the vibe and music?
It’s not your typical OPM hugot structure. It’s very theatrical and storytelling-based, which reflects my Musical Theater background and I’m really proud that it comes through in the song.
When did you record this?
2 months ago! Hehehehe.
How do you feel about the song?
I really liked how the song was very much focused on the melody and storytelling. It immediately caught my ear when I heard the lyrics although very profound, it still had lines that were relatable.
Which line struck you the most?
“Kung nakikita mo ang nakikita ko di ka magtatanong kung bakit di sumuko” is my favorite because it reflects a lot of what people don’t realize; that people who love them feel about them, they are loved despite everything.
What can your fans expect in the near future?
Definitely more music to come, especially with my sisters Lucas and Enzo, iDolls music should come up soon, more covers, and more originals. Hopefully soon, one of which I wrote.
Do you have other current or upcoming projects?
Currently been super busy with livestreaming on Kumu and our family business TweakedPH. There are many upcoming promotions and guestings for all 3 of us to promote our songs and hopefully, more recordings about to happen!
Will you have an EP soon?
I have too many songs written and I am very much looking to create them fully and gift them to the world. Hopefully, an EP could be possible, but for now, working on a couple of songs that hopefully work!
