Gerald Santos returns on the theatre stage after 2 major international productions (Miss Saigon UK/International Tour and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street ). He will reprise the role of Pedro Calungsod in the Prinstar Productions’ revival of San Pedro Calungsod The Musical. Gerald played Thuy in the Cameron Mackintosh’s production of Miss Saigon while he played Anthony Hope in the Atlantis Theatrical’s Sweeney Todd. What makes this musical very special to Gerald is that he is the co-composer of the songs in this play.
While the play was first staged in Manila in 2014, most of the play’s shows were presented to the Visayas-Mindanao audiences. It will now have the chance to be seen by the Manila audience.
San Pedro Calungsod The Musical is about the life and death of Pedro Calungsod who served as a young missionary in an evangelistic mission in the Ladrones Islands headed by Father Diego de San Vitores. Pedro and Father Diego met their untimely death while in the mission. They were killed by the locals who violently resisted their evangelistic activities.
Playing Father Diego de San Vitores is theatre veteran Kuya Manzano who was recently seen in PSF’s “Sindak” and Repertory Philippines’ “Miong”. He plays a dedicated priest who has vision problems and develops a solid friendship with Pedro Calungsod.
Libretto is by Antonino Rommel Ramilo and music by Antonino Rommel Ramilo and Gerald Santos. Antonino Rommel Ramilo also directs this musical play.
Completing the cast are Vince Layson Vicentuan (Choco), Heidi Arima (mother), Hutch Perales (Matapang), Jhay R Baccol (Hirao), Jude Matthew Servilla (Young Missionary), Josh Campo (Young Missionary), Juris Ocampo (Young Missionary), Vince Conrad (Young Missionary), Jonna Sibonga (ensemble), Jessa Padilla (ensemble), Marion Dizon (ensemble), Renren Tiongson (ensemble), Christine Wico Laforteza (ensemble), and Jerome Ferguson (ensemble).
The shows will be on January 24, 2020, 3PM at the Cuneta Astrodome, February 22 and 29, 2020, 6PM at the St Cecilia’s Hall, St Scholastica’s College Manila, and Februart 25, 2020, 7PM at the Music Museum.
