Sanchez first stepped onto the AGT stage as a 10-year-old in the show’s debut season in 2006. She reached the semifinals but was eliminated. Now, twenty years later — and nine months pregnant — she returned and won it all, becoming the first finalist in AGT history to compete throughout the season while expecting.
Her finale performance, a soul-stirring rendition of Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga’s hit “Die With a Smile,” brought the audience to its feet and moved the judges to tears.
“It’s perfection. You look like a little pregnant angel,” said Sofía Vergara. “Your voice, I’ve never heard anything like that.”
Mel B. praised her emotional power and vocal precision: “Your vocals are just flawless and pitch perfect every single time. I wanna thank you — and your baby’s gonna thank you.”
Simon Cowell called it “extraordinary,” adding, “Actually, there are two of you. So it’s like a duo.” Howie Mandel simply said she was “the best act of the night.”
Sanchez began her comeback journey this season with a Golden Buzzer performance of “Beautiful Things,” automatically advancing her to the Quarterfinals. Week after week, she delivered moving performances, including “Ordinary” and “Golden Hour,” winning America’s votes and building unstoppable momentum.
“Maybe it took me 20 years, but I know exactly who I am,” she said earlier in the season. “I’m excited to be back.”
Following her win, Sanchez was visibly emotional. “I’m sorry, I’m really emotional. This is amazing. Thank you so much America,” she said, holding back tears.
