Shrek The Musical has officially closed its run at the Newport Performing Arts Theater, ending with cheers and standing ovations as the beloved ogre and his fairy-tale friends took their final bow.
The Shrek-tacular production ran from October 31 to December 21, staging a total of 38 shows. Audiences were treated to laughter, music, and memorable performances that brought the world of Shrek to life on stage.

During the final curtain call, Newport World Resorts President and CEO Nilo Thaddeus Rodriguez addressed the audience, emphasizing the vision behind the resort’s theater productions.
“Our productions reflect a vision that began with our founder, Dr. Andrew L. Tan, and is championed today by our Executive Chairman, Kevin L. Tan: to position the Philippines as the Broadway of Asia, providing a platform where Filipino artists can thrive and to contribute meaningfully to the growth of our performing arts landscape,” Rodriguez said. “Shrek The Musical, built entirely by Filipino performers, creatives, and crew, is a testament to what we can achieve on a stage of this scale.”
The closing night celebration extended beyond Shrek’s final bow. The cast of Bagets The Musical, led by KD Estrada, Migo Valid, Milo Cruz, Mico Hendrix Chua, Noel Comia Jr., and Sam Shoaf, gave audiences a special performance of “Just Got Lucky,” offering a preview of Newport World Resorts’ next major production.
With Shrek The Musical now concluded, Newport World Resorts continues its commitment to nurturing local theater. The spotlight now shifts from one monster to another, as Bagets The Musical brings to life the stage adaptation of the monstrous ’80s hit, blending nostalgia, music, and dance. Opening on January 23, 2026, Bagets promises another unforgettable experience entirely developed and staged by Filipino talent, proving once again that world-class musical theater can thrive in the Philippines.
