Scotland’s Pitlochry Festival Theatre has unveiled its 2026 season, marking the debut of Alan Cumming as Artistic Director. The Tony, Emmy, and Olivier-winning actor will lead the theatre and star in multiple productions, offering a mix of world premieres, UK debuts, and bold revivals.
Cumming will headline as Henry Higgins in a new revival of My Fair Lady, directed by Olivier Award winner Maria Friedman. The show runs November 21–December 31, closing out a season packed with star-studded theatre.

The season opens May 23–June 27 with the Scottish premiere of Once, reuniting the original Broadway creative team led by director John Tiffany. Next, Douglas Maxwell’s Inexperience, directed by Sally Reid and starring Adura Onashile and Sandy Grierson, runs June 13–July 4. A fresh adaptation of Shakespeare’s King Lear, titled Lear, directed by Finn den Hertog and starring Maureen Beattie, performs July 4–August 1.
Cumming also stars in Oliver Emanuel’s A History of Paper (August 8–September 12), co-starring Shirley Henderson, and directs the world premiere of Martin Sherman’s I’ll Be Seeing You (September 12–October 11) with Simon Russell Beale and Fra Fee. The immersive Scottish musical Ceilidh, making its UK debut September 24–October 17, is directed by Tony winner Sam Pinkleton.
Other highlights include the concert-style world premiere I Can Die Too, co-produced with Lovechild Productions, and a revival of Iain Heggie’s Wiping My Mother’s Arse (August 15–September 6). The season also features David Harrower’s adaptation of The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie starring Gayle Rankin in November.
Cumming said: “My first season of programmed work as artistic director in 2026 also happens to be the 75th anniversary of Pitlochry Festival Theatre’s founding… The potential of Pitlochry Festival Theatre is boundless, and we have a passionate and proud staff who are ready to share the adventure ahead with me.”
Tickets are on sale for members and patrons, with public sales starting November 27 at 10 AM GMT. Tickets for Ceilidh will be available in 2026. Visit PitlochryFestivalTheatre.com for details.
