The Olivier Award-winning production of Jesus Christ Superstar is coming to Manila, with performances scheduled at The Theatre at Solaire from May 2 to 24, 2026. After acclaimed, sold-out runs in London, North America, the UK, and Australia, the musical is making its mark on the Philippines as part of a major international tour.

Featuring music and lyrics by Emmy, GRAMMY, Oscar, and Tony winners Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, this reimagined production originated at London’s Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre. The creative team includes director Timothy Sheader, choreographer Drew McOnie, designer Tom Scutt, lighting designer Lee Curran, sound designer Nick Lidster, and music supervisor Tom Deering.
Jesus Christ Superstar tells the story of the final days of Jesus Christ through the eyes of Judas Iscariot. The narrative, conveyed entirely through song, explores the relationships and struggles of Jesus, Judas, Mary Magdalene, his disciples, followers, and the Roman Empire. The iconic 1970s rock score includes numbers such as “Superstar,” “I Don’t Know How to Love Him,” and “Gethsemane,” which continue to resonate with audiences worldwide.
Since opening on Broadway in 1971 at the Mark Hellinger Theatre, and in London at the Palace Theatre in 1972, the musical has become a global phenomenon. By the time the original London production closed, it had run for over eight years and 3,358 performances, making it the longest-running West End musical at the time. The show has seen numerous revivals, including a Broadway revival in 2012 and a celebrated production at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre marking its 45th anniversary.

Producer David Ian said, “After incredible success in Australia and the UK, we’re delighted to be bringing Jesus Christ Superstar to Manila. This Olivier Award-winning production has amazed audiences around the world with its raw energy and breathtaking performances. Whether you’ve loved the show for decades or are discovering it for the first time, this will be an unforgettable experience.”
Carlos Candal, CEO of GMG Productions, added, “We’re beyond thrilled to bring one of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s most iconic and influential musicals of all time to Manila. Jesus Christ Superstar is a show that transcends generations. Its music and story continue to inspire audiences, and we can’t wait for Filipino fans to experience this powerful production live.”
