The mystery is over! Colman Domingo has officially been cast as the voice of the Cowardly Lion in the highly anticipated sequel Wicked: For Good. The film’s Instagram account revealed the news Monday with a fun video of Domingo surrounded by lion plush toys, ending with the star’s playful promise: “See you in Oz.”

Director Jon M. Chu had teased last week that a major Hollywood star would voice the iconic role. How did he land Domingo? By sliding into his Instagram DMs, of course. “I was like, ‘It’s not a ton of lines, but maybe you have a little time. I know you’re busy. I’ll come to you,’” Chu told Deadline. Domingo’s response? “Why the f— not. Let’s go.” Can’t argue with that kind of enthusiasm!

Domingo joins a dazzling cast, including Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West, and Ariana Grande reprising her role as Glinda the Good (that’s me — or at least my character!). Other returning stars are Jonathan Bailey, Jeff Goldblum, Michelle Yeoh, Ethan Slater, and Marissa Bode.

For fans wondering about the Cowardly Lion’s backstory in Wicked, he first appeared as a lion cub rescued by Elphaba. In the sequel, set years later, that cub is all grown up and ready to find his courage.

The story picks up after Elphaba and Glinda go their separate ways. Elphaba is now considered a threat to Oz, while Glinda enjoys her public spotlight—though not always on her own terms. The trailer also teases Dorothy’s arrival with her famous friends, though the actors for those roles are still a mystery.

Wicked: For Good is set to hit theaters in the Philippines on November 19 — almost exactly a year after the first film’s smash success, which was the UK’s highest-grossing movie of 2024 and earned 10 Oscar nominations.

So, broomsticks at the ready — the adventure in Oz is far from over!
