The Far Eastern University Theater Guild (FTG) enters its 91st season with Karne, an interactive dark comedy written and directed by Dudz Teraña, Senior Artist-Teacher at the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) and FTG’s artistic director.
Set in Lubotan, Zamboanguita, Negros Oriental in 1980, Karne is a reimagining of Roald Dahl’s Lamb to the Slaughter, delivered with a distinctly Filipino flavor. This theatrical feast invites audiences into the aromatic, simmering home of a Filipino couple where every glance is loaded, every silence loud, and the kitchen holds more secrets than spices.

Blending absurdity with sincerity and humor with unease, the production moves between Bisaya, Tagalog, and English. It captures the quiet tensions of rural life while exploring deeper emotional and social undercurrents.
“This play holds up a mirror to the lived realities of an individual, grounding itself in raw humanness,” said Teraña. “It offers a more layered and flavorful approach to staging—bold in form, grounded in truth, and unapologetically relevant. ‘Karne’ is not just something to look forward to; it’s an experience that lingers.”
At the center of the story are Mary and Police Captain Patrick Patrosa, a seemingly ordinary couple navigating the strains of marriage. Mary is played by Maria Mayano (IAS’26), with Julia Nicole Ramas (FIT’26) and Janae Dionisio (IAS‘28) alternating the role. Patrick is portrayed by RB Pascua (IAS’25), Aaron Bayani (IAS’25), and Arvin Javier (IAS’28). A quiet evening spirals into chaos, unraveling issues of intimacy, community, and unspoken truths.
The cast includes close friends Dante (Jonas Cunanan, Renz Dotillos, Jharelle Villalobos), Ellen (Dianne Andallo, Maria Ysabelle Delos Reyes), and Maloi (Bjorn Pestaño, Margarita Barrameda, Sheila Peralta), along with Patrick’s colleagues: Lieutenant Elnar (Arvin Javier, Shawn Tarala), Patrolman Enopia (Kristian Samson, Justin Abalos), and Patrolman Credo (Dave Bambang, Kirstan Orbegoso).
Also featured are Mrs. Poblacion (Cassandra Herilla, Irish Oliveros, Trisha Tan) and grandchild Estong/Estang (Lorenze Moral, Nash Desonyo, Heleina Li), with Samuel the market vendor played by Julian Anabo and Migi Mesina.
Founded in 1934, the FTG is one of the Philippines’ oldest student theater organizations. Known for bold and socially relevant work, it continues to tell Filipino stories through fearless and innovative performance.
