Taylor Swift released her 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, on Friday, marking a new chapter in her career after the massive success of her Eras Tour.
The album follows The Tortured Poets Department, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and sold the equivalent of 8 million albums in the U.S., according to Luminate.

“She occupies a very rare position in today’s fragmented music landscape: she is an active superstar with a massive and loyal fan base,” said Tatiana Cirisano, vice president of music strategy at MIDiA Research. “So few can get such a massive number of people listening to the same thing at once. So, it would surprise me a lot if the new release did not reach her usual level of success.”
The lead single, “The Fate of Ophelia,” sets the tone for the album’s theatrical and upbeat direction. A music video for the track premiered during The Official Release Party of a Showgirl, a theater event running throughout the weekend.
The album includes 12 tracks:
- The Fate of Ophelia
- Elizabeth Taylor
- Opalite
- Father Figure (a tribute to George Michael)
- Eldest Daughter
- Ruin the Friendship
- Actually Romantic
- Wi$h Li$t
- Wood
- CANCELLED!
- Honey
- The Life of a Showgirl (feat. Sabrina Carpenter)
Swift also reunited with Swedish producers Max Martin and Shellback, known for earlier hits like “Blank Space” and “We Are Never Getting Back Together.”
“There’s [going to be] a joy in The Life of a Showgirl that we have wanted to see from Taylor for years,” said Liz Duff, host of the Late Night Scrolling Canada podcast. She described the album as a move toward “owning accomplishments,” contrasting the more introspective themes of past releases.
