Netflix has announced that The Thursday Murder Club, based on the international bestselling novel by Richard Osman, will premiere on Thursday, August 28, 2025.
The film follows four retirees—Elizabeth (Helen Mirren), Ron (Pierce Brosnan), Ibrahim (Ben Kingsley), and Joyce (Celia Imrie)—who spend their time solving unsolved murder cases. When a mysterious death occurs close to home, their quiet hobby turns into a real investigation.

Directed by Chris Columbus, the film is part of the ongoing partnership between Netflix and Amblin Entertainment. The screenplay is written by Katy Brand and Suzanne Heathcote. Columbus also serves as a producer alongside Jennifer Todd. Executive producers include Jo Burn, Richard Osman, Eleanor Columbus, Holly Bario, and Jeb Brody.
The cast features a wide range of talent, including Naomi Ackie, Daniel Mays, Henry Lloyd-Hughes, Tom Ellis, Jonathan Pryce, David Tennant, Paul Freeman, Geoff Bell, Richard E. Grant, and Ingrid Oliver.
Retirement homes are typically places for relaxation and quiet routines. But as shown in the trailer, the residents at the center of this story are anything but typical. They’ve stumbled upon a murder—and they’re determined to solve it.
“This is the finest cast I’ve worked with since Potter,” Columbus told Netflix. “They’re just so incredibly well-prepared, and it’s because they do everything. They do theater, they do television, they do film, and they’ve developed those sorts of muscles.”
The film adapts Osman’s popular novel of the same name, which has sold millions of copies worldwide. With its mix of humor, mystery, and an ensemble cast of seasoned actors, The Thursday Murder Club aims to deliver a new take on the classic whodunit.
The Thursday Murder Club will be available to stream globally on Netflix starting August 28.
