Repertory Philippines is back to bend minds and tickle imaginations with a new musical take on Lewis Carroll’s trippy classic, Alice in Wonderland — and yes, the flamingo croquet is included. This latest installment from Repertory Theater for Young Audiences (RTYA) runs from August 23 to December 14 at the REP Eastwood Theater, and promises to be a “tuneful, over-the-top entertaining experience for the entire family.”

The musical, adapted for the stage with music and lyrics by Janet Yates Vogt and Mark Friedman, is helmed by RTYA Creative Director Joy Virata and Cara Barredo — who also pulls double duty as one of the Queens of Hearts. In typical Carrollian fashion, expect things to get weird fast. We’re talking “zany characters, a mad tea party, flamingo croquet, and tap-dancing playing cards.” You’ve been warned.

'Alice in Wonderland' Musical: REP's Adventure Down the Rabbit Hole
REP’s Alice in Wonderland runs from August – December 2025

Carroll’s world is brought to life with the usual suspects: Alice, the Mad Hatter, the White Rabbit, Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, the Caterpillar, the Mock Turtle, the Cheshire Cat, and of course the Queen who is really into beheadings. The adaptation pulls from both Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass, meaning things are bound to get curiouser and curiouser.

Three actors rotate in the title role: Reese De La Vega Iso, Justine Narciso, and Cheska Quimno. The Queen of Hearts is in regal hands with Cara Barredo, Pinky Marquez, and Mayen Bustamante-Cadd. Hans Eckstein and Gerhard Krysstopher share duties as the musical’s Mad Hatter, while Steven Hotchkiss and Gabo Tiongson hop in as the White Rabbit.

The rest of Wonderland’s most quotable residents are played by a stacked ensemble: Vino Mabalot and Jay Pangilinan as the Mock Turtle; Stephen Viñas and Sebastian Katigbak as the Cheshire Cat (with Krysstopher also in the rotation); Yhuan Gatbunton and Lance Soliman as the Caterpillar; Drew Bustamante and Paul Atienza as Tweedle Dum; Katie Bradshaw and Ornella Brianna as Tweedle Dee; Ayam Eckstein and Jay Barrameda as the Doormouse; Kenny Isidoro and Johann Parungao as the March Hare; Karl Navato and Pangilinan (again) as the Dodo Bird; and Vinz Castillo and Sean Nolasco as the Knave of Hearts.

The ensemble bringing extra sparkle to the madness includes Coleen Paz, Jacqui Jacinto, Jiliana Tavares, Julia Panlilio, Lucylle Tan, Monica Tulio, Tanja Santos, Astro, DJ Buban, Deo Dela Cruz, Jae Valencia, VJ Cortel, and Keith Campus.

Behind the scenes, a powerhouse creative team of Filipino theater pros is pulling the strings: Musical Director Phoebe Bitoon, Choreographer Stephen Viñas, Assistant Choreographer and Dance Captain Deo Dela Cruz, Set Designer Lawyn Cruz (with help from Lou Cagalingan and Kath Fernando), Costume Designers Hershee Tantiado and Phillip Domingo, Lighting Designer John Batalla, Projection Designer GA Fallarme, and Hair and Makeup Designer Johann Dela Fuente. Ayam Eckstein is also on board as Company Manager, and Patricia Gregorio handles Production Manager duties.
