The first official trailer for Avatar: Fire and Ash, the third installment in James Cameron’s record-breaking sci-fi franchise, has arrived. The new footage offers an early glimpse at the next chapter in the ongoing battle for Pandora, ahead of the film’s December 19, 2025 release.
The trailer sets a darker tone as Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña), and their children are once again thrust into conflict. This time, they face threats not only from the returning human military, but from within the Na’vi world itself—with the introduction of the Ash People.

“You can’t live like this baby — in hate!” Jake tells Neytiri in a moment of emotional tension, signaling the personal stakes at the heart of the film.
The Ash People, a fearsome new Na’vi clan, are introduced in a dramatic fire-lit sequence. Covered in soot and led by the formidable Varang (Oona Chaplin), they appear to have formed an alliance with the resurrected Quaritch (Stephen Lang). “Your goddess has no dominion here,” Varang warns ominously at the trailer’s end.
“You’ll see a lot more Pandora that you never saw before,” Cameron said during the 2024 D23 Expo. “It’s an insane adventure and a feast for the eyes, but it’s also got very high emotional stakes, more than ever before. We’re going into really challenging territory for all the characters you know and love.”
The returning ensemble cast includes Sigourney Weaver, Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Britain Dalton, Jack Champion, Trinity Jo-Li Bliss, and Bailey Bass. David Thewlis and Michelle Yeoh also join the franchise in undisclosed roles.
Originally developed as part of The Way of Water, Fire and Ash evolved into a standalone film during the writing process. “There are new characters, one especially I think you’re gonna love, or love to hate,” Cameron teased.
