Netflix’s newest music competition series, Building the Band, is now streaming, with new episodes dropping weekly.
Hosted by AJ McLean of the Backstreet Boys, this innovative show flips the script on traditional music contests. In Building the Band, singers audition for each other without ever seeing one another. From inside individual sound booths, they rely solely on musical connection, chemistry, and raw talent to choose their future bandmates.

“Who else has chills?” Netflix teased. In the sneak peek, the very first audition stuns the other contestants — and sets the tone for the dramatic journey ahead.
The twist? After forming bands without looks or image in mind, contestants finally meet face-to-face. That’s when style, choreography, and work ethic enter the mix. The result is a high-stakes blend of talent, tension, and transformation as each group aims to become the next breakout music sensation.
Renowned artist and Tony Award winner Nicole Scherzinger of The Pussycat Dolls, serves as mentor and judge. Joining her are guest judges and music icons Kelly Rowland (Destiny’s Child) and the late Liam Payne (One Direction). Payne’s family reviewed the series and supports his posthumous involvement. Their combined industry knowledge and firsthand experience in forming successful bands bring authenticity and insight to the competition.
The release format includes 10 episodes spread across three weeks:
- Week 1 (July 9): Episodes 1–4
- Week 2 (July 16): Episodes 5–7
- Week 3 (July 23): Episodes 8–10
Produced by Remarkable Entertainment (a Banijay UK company), the show is executive produced by Cat Lawson, Alison Holloway, Katrina Morrison, Clara Elliot, and Simon Crossley.
