Butterfly, a new spy-thriller series starring and executive produced by Daniel Dae Kim, is set to debut on Wednesday, August 13, 2025. All six episodes will be released on that day through Amazon MGM Studios.

Based on the graphic novel by Arash Amel and published by BOOM! Studios, Butterfly is a character-driven drama that dives deep into the world of global espionage. At its center is David Jung (Kim), a former U.S. intelligence agent living in South Korea. Jung’s quiet life unravels when a past decision resurfaces with deadly consequences. He is soon hunted by Rebecca (Reina Hardesty), a cold and ruthless young agent working for a dark spy group known as Caddis.

Joining Kim and Hardesty in the main cast are Piper Perabo and Louis Landau. The recurring cast includes Kim Ji-hoon, Park Hae-soo, Kim Tae-hee, Charles Parnell, Sean Dulake, and Nayoon Kim. Guest roles will be played by Sung Dong-il and Lee Il-hwa.

“Butterfly is the realization of a longtime dream to bring together American and Korean storytellers and create a show that bridges two cultures that I love deeply,” said Kim. “I couldn’t be happier with the creative team we’ve assembled, both in front of and behind the camera, and I’m grateful to Ken Woodruff, BOOM! Studios, 3AD, Amazon, and everyone else who helped bring it to life.”

Ken Woodruff (The Mentalist, Gotham) serves as showrunner and co-creator alongside novelist Steph Cha. Executive producers include Woodruff, Cha, Kim, and John Cheng for 3AD, Stephen Christy and Ross Richie for BOOM! Studios, and Arash Amel. Adam Yoelin is co-executive producer for BOOM! Studios.

The series is developed by Kim’s 3AD under its first-look deal with Amazon MGM Studios. Kitao Sakurai directed the first two episodes.
