The immortal warriors return in The Old Guard 2, with Charlize Theron back as Andy, now facing a new reality—mortality.
Following the events of the first film, Andy and her team—Nile (KiKi Layne), Joe (Marwan Kenzari), Nicky (Luca Marinelli), and Copley (Chiwetel Ejiofor) reunite for a high-stakes mission. Booker (Matthias Schoenaerts) remains in exile, and Quynh (Veronica Ngô), finally free after centuries of drowning, is out for revenge.
“There’s something for everyone in this movie,” said Theron. “Fans who loved the first film, fans who love the original graphic novels, and brand-new fans.”
Uma Thurman and Henry Golding join the cast. Golding plays Tuah, a mysterious ally with deep knowledge of immortals. “I suggested his character be called Tuah, which in Malaysian means ‘luck,’” Golding shared. Thurman plays Discord, an immortal older than Andy, with her own deadly agenda.
“We ended the first film with radical changes,” said writer Greg Rucka. “Andy’s mortality has mysteriously left her, Nile has joined the group, and Booker has been punished.”
Director Victoria Mahoney brings new energy and global locations to the sequel. “I relentlessly pushed toward the unexpected,” she said. “I wanted desperately to explore these characters chasing story beats inside of action beats.”
Layne said Nile has grown. “She’s still asking questions, but she’s found her place within the team.” Working with Theron, she added, was “a dream come true.”
The Old Guard 2 is packed with action, emotion, and big questions about purpose and legacy. It lands on Netflix July 2.
