Oscar-winning director Bill Condon, known for Dreamgirls and Beauty and the Beast, returns to the world of movie musicals with a striking new adaptation of Kiss of the Spider Woman. This powerful film blends political drama with vivid musical fantasy and draws from two celebrated sources: the 1976 novel by Argentinian writer Manuel Puig and the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical by playwright Terrence McNally, with music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb.
Condon wrote the screenplay and directed the film, crafting a layered narrative that explores themes of identity, imagination, and resistance. Set inside a Latin American prison under a brutal regime, the story centers on two cellmates from very different worlds. Valentín, played by Emmy nominee Diego Luna, is a political prisoner. Sharing his cell is Molina, portrayed by Tonatiuh, a window dresser imprisoned for public indecency.

As days pass in confinement, an unlikely bond forms between the two men. To escape the grim reality of their surroundings, Molina recounts the plot of a glamorous Hollywood-style musical starring his beloved silver screen diva, Ingrid Luna—played by Jennifer Lopez. These fantastical sequences, bursting with Technicolor vibrancy, create a striking contrast to the harshness of prison life and become a powerful storytelling device within the film.
Jennifer Lopez also serves as an executive producer on the project, alongside Diego Luna. The film is produced by Barry Josephson, Tom Kirdahy, and Greg Yolen, and is presented by Artists Equity and Mohari Media. The executive producing team includes Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Mark Scheinberg, Dani Bernfeld, Kevin Halloran, Michael Joe, Mickey Liddell, Pete Shilaimon, Whitney Williams, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, Courtney Baxter, D. Matt Geller, Pamela Thur, Sam Weisman, Daniel Weisman, and Margaux Weisman.
Kiss of the Spider Woman is a Josephson Entertainment / Tom Kirdahy / Greg Yolen / Nuyorican production. It hits cinemas on October 10.
