Veteran stage and screen actress Ellen Greene leads the cast of Beatrix Is Invisible, a new short film set to premiere this month at the Palm Springs International Short Film Festival. Written and directed by Alex Farias, the film explores themes of loneliness, identity, and rediscovery.

Greene, best known for originating the role of Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors, plays Beatrix, a woman who once had a full life—as a mother, a wife, and an active member of the world. Now alone and feeling invisible, she searches for meaning in a world that seems to have left her behind.

“When Beatrix feels disconnected and insignificant, she reaches out to the world around her,” the synopsis reads. “Unsuccessful, she must step far outside her comfort zone to find her place again.”

In an interview with Playbill, Greene describes Beatrix as a curious, generous woman battling loneliness and depression. “She used to have a life, an identity… now she has no vocation, no friends, not even social media. This is her journey to figure out who she is now.”

The film also stars Rhys Mitchell, Taylor Shurte, Haiden Pino, Justin Livingston, Melina Paez, and L’metrius Long. It will screen as part of the Palm Springs International ShortFest, running June 24–30 in Palm Springs, California.

Ellen Greene’s career spans decades. She created the role of Audrey in the Off-Broadway, London, and Los Angeles productions of Little Shop of Horrors, and reprised the part in the 1986 film and again in a 2015 New York concert alongside Jake Gyllenhaal. Her Broadway and Off-Broadway credits include Threepenny Opera, Rachael Lily Rosenbloom, and The Public Theater productions. On screen, she’s appeared in One Fine Day, The Cooler, Heroes, Pushing Daisies, and Hannibal.
