Detective Benoit Blanc is back for Knives Out 3— and so is the murder.

Netflix has officially announced that Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery will premiere on December 12, 2025. The release date was revealed during the streamer’s TUDUM live event, along with a dramatic teaser trailer that gave fans a first look at the next big mystery.

Daniel Craig returns as the world-famous Southern detective Benoit Blanc, facing what is being teased as his most dangerous and complex case yet. Writer and director Rian Johnson is once again leading the project, continuing the acclaimed franchise that began with 2019’s Knives Out and continued with 2022’s Glass Onion. At TUDUM, Johnson said, “This is the third Benoit Blanc movie that we’ve made and one thing that we try and do, that we strive to do with each one of them is to keep the audience guessing. It’s really important for us to figure out new ways every time so that just when you think you haven’t figured out, a new twist comes along that you weren’t expecting; and that’s what makes these special.”

The film features a star-studded cast that includes Daniel Craig, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, Jeremy Renner, Glenn Close, Kerry Washington, Andrew Scott, Josh O’Connor, Cailee Spaeny, Daryl McCormack, Thomas Haden Church, Annie Hamilton, Kerry Frances, and Marcus Edward Bond. In the teaser, Craig ominously refers to the case as “the impossible crime,” suggesting a deeper and more twisted mystery than ever before. The footage features dark, dramatic visuals, including a mysterious church setting, hinting at the tone and stakes of the story.

The Knives Out series has been widely praised for its sharp writing, unique characters, and modern take on the classic whodunit. The original film earned Rian Johnson an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay, while Glass Onion followed with a nomination for Adapted Screenplay. Netflix acquired the rights to two sequels in a \$469 million deal, with Wake Up Dead Man being the second.

With its December release date, the film is clearly positioned for awards season, and expectations are high. Bigger, darker, and packed with talent, Wake Up Dead Man is shaping up to be another thrilling chapter in the beloved murder mystery series.
