Netflix’s new limited series “Untamed” will premiere on Thursday, July 17. The mystery-thriller stars Eric Bana, Sam Neill, Rosemarie DeWitt, Lily Santiago, and Wilson Bethel in a tense, character-driven story set in the rugged beauty of Yosemite National Park.
The show follows Kyle Turner, played by Eric Bana, a special agent with the National Park Service’s Investigative Services Branch. Turner’s job is to uphold human law in the wilderness, a role that becomes more complicated when a violent death in the park sets off a high-stakes investigation. As he digs deeper, Turner uncovers dark secrets lurking in Yosemite—and within his own past.

Sam Neill plays Paul Souter, the park’s veteran chief ranger and a close friend to Turner. Lily Santiago portrays Naya Vasquez, a former LAPD officer and the newest member of the ranger team, who brings sharp instincts and homicide experience to the case. Rosemarie DeWitt takes on the role of Jill Bodwin, Turner’s ex-wife, whose connection to him remains strong despite their separation. Wilson Bethel appears as Shane Maguire, a former army ranger who now lives in isolation as the park’s Wildlife Management Officer.
According to co-showrunners Mark L. Smith and Elle Smith, the series explores the contrast between the park’s breathtaking scenery and its hidden dangers. “Everyone thinks of Yosemite as this beautiful place with all the vistas and all the scenery, but we were trying to touch on the dangers that are just beyond that,” Mark L. Smith told Tudum. Elle Smith added, “We get to understand what this job is, and see the beauty of the park, but also the dangers.”
“Untamed” consists of six one-hour episodes. It is executive produced by Mark L. Smith, Elle Smith, Eric Bana, John Wells, Erin Jontow, Todd Black, Tony Shaw, Steve Lee Jones, and Cliff Roberts, in collaboration with John Wells Productions, Escape Artists Entertainment, Bee Holder Productions, and Syndicate Entertainment.
Combining suspense, emotional depth, and the raw force of nature, “Untamed” promises to be a thrilling watch.
