‘Romeo & Julia’ honored at German Musical Theater Awards 2023

BMG’s latest stage production Romeo & Julia – Liebe ist alles has scored three trophies at the prestigious Deutscher Musical Theater Preis (German Musical Theater Award) 2023

Best Sound Design winner, Florentin Adolf

Romeo & Julia won in the categories of Best Sound Design (Florentin Adolf), Best Choreography (Jonathan Huor), and Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Nico Went as Mercutio). The musical received further nominations for Best Lighting Design (Tim Deiling) and Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Steffi Irmen as Amme).

Co-written by BMG songwriters Peter Plate and Ulf Leo Sommer, and produced by BMG, Romeo & Julia – Liebe ist alles premiered at the renowned Theater des Westens (TDW) in Berlin in March this year. Since then, the production has garnered considerable attention with an audience of over 150,000 attendees.

Romeo & Julia – Liebe ist alles transposes Shakespeare’s famous tragedy to the contemporary era, accompanied by pop hits, including the hit single ‘Liebe Ist Alles’ released by the German band Rosenstolz in 2004 and written by Plate and Sommer.

Best Actor in a Supporting Role winner, Nico Went

Established in 2014, the German Musical Theater Award is the only musical award presented to musical professionals by their peers in German-speaking Europe. The awards aim to acknowledge and make public outstanding artistic achievements in the genre of musicals. The Academy presents the awards on an annual basis.
