‘Pinocchio’: Guillermo del Toro reimagines classic tale

Coming to Netflix this December

Academy Award-winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro reimagines the classic Italian tale of PINOCCHIO in a stop-motion musical adventure. Follow the mischievous adventures of Pinocchio in his pursuit of a place in the world.

Directed by Guillermo del Toro and Mark Gustafson, the film features an all-star voice cast with Ewan McGregor as Cricket, David Bradley as Geppetto, and introducing Gregory Mann as Pinocchio. Other cast includes Finn Wolfhard, Academy Award(R) winner Cate Blanchett, John Turturro, Ron Perlman, Tim Blake Nelson, Burn Gorman, with Academy Award(R) winner Christoph Waltz and Academy Award(R) winner Tilda Swinton.

Del Toro’s Pinocchio is a retelling of the tale of a wooden puppet who magically comes to life, much to the surprise of his woodcarver “father”. According to Charles Pulliam-Moore’s article on The Verge, “Unlike some of the other Pinocchio tellings you may be familiar with, though, this film’s Pinocchio quickly gets into the sorts of cruel mischief that put him at odds with Geppetto, who loves his son but can’t help but see that he isn’t exactly what one would call a “nice” child.”
