The acoustic version of “Zombie” has been released, offering a stripped-back and emotionally direct take on the GRAMMY®-nominated rock ballad. The recording arrives as Yungblud heads into the GRAMMY® Awards with nominations across all major rock categories.

Acoustic 'Zombie' Reveals Yungblud’s Emotional Side

Originally nominated for Best Rock Song, acoustic “Zombie” is widely regarded as one of the most introspective releases of the past year. This version removes much of the original production, placing emphasis on lyrical vulnerability and emotional clarity. Written in memory of his late grandmother, who died from alcoholism, the song explores themes of trauma, withdrawal, and personal deterioration.

Acoustic “Zombie” and Grammy Momentum

“The song was written initially about my grandmother going through serious injury and trauma, leading her to become a different person to who she was before,” Yungblud said. “It’s about the feeling of deterioration and ugliness; shutting out the world and the people we love out of the fear of becoming a burden or an embarrassment.”

The acoustic “Zombie” release is accompanied by an intimate music video directed by Jesse Jo Stark. It follows the original version’s visual, described as a “love letter to nurses around the world” and starring Academy Award-nominated actor Florence Pugh.

The new recording comes ahead of the 68th annual GRAMMY® Awards, scheduled for February 1, 2026, in Los Angeles. Yungblud earned nominations for Best Rock Album for IDOLS, Best Rock Song for “Zombie,” and Best Rock Performance for his cover of Black Sabbath’s “Changes,” marking a career milestone across all three rock categories.

Recent months have highlighted his growing profile. Yungblud delivered a tribute to Ozzy Osbourne at the MTV Video Music Awards, performing alongside Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, and Nuno Bettencourt. He also secured his first Top 10 debut on the Billboard 200 with One More Time, a collaborative EP with Aerosmith that topped multiple rock charts in the U.S. and debuted at No. 1 in the UK.

With a sold-out North American tour scheduled for 2026 and IDOLS positioned as the first installment of an ambitious double album, the acoustic “Zombie” release stands as a defining moment—quiet in delivery, yet central to a year shaped by critical recognition and sustained momentum.
