The couple had been capturing memories with tripod video selfies throughout their Scotland castle tour, dressing up at select stops as part of a lighthearted plan “just in case.” As Montalban explained on Instagram, “We planned to take tripod video selfies in front of the Scottish castles we visited and dressed up for a couple of them… just in case. But when I turned around and saw the clock tower, I knew.”

Standing before the castle’s clock tower, Montalban—known for his polished performances—found himself unexpectedly overwhelmed. He shared, “Thank goodness for memorized dialogue. I totally blanked popping the big question to my best friend in the whole world at Glamis Castle. I was rambling about all the reasons why I love @yoannarocks. But then I recalled the last few lines of Mr. Darcy’s final proposal from her favorite movie. And thank goodness Yoanna said ‘Yes.’” Fans immediately celebrated the engagement online, sharing in the couple’s fairytale moment.

Those iconic lines helped Montalban recover and deliver a heartfelt proposal, turning nervousness into something deeply personal. Nikolova’s immediate “Yes” sealed the occasion with a sense of magic perfectly suited to the historic castle setting.

Overflowing with happiness, Montalban added a nostalgic nod to the role that made him beloved: “I may never come down to Earth again!” The line comes from Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella, the 1997 Disney classic that made him an international favorite. He first portrayed Prince Christopher in that film and recently returned as King Charming in the 2024 Disney+ movie Descendants: The Rise of Red.
