Focus Features has unveiled the official trailer and poster for Bugonia, a new sci-fi comedy directed by Yorgos Lanthimos. The film will open in limited theaters on October 24, before expanding wide on October 31. To kick off the release, a special week-long cinematic event will feature select screenings in New York and Los Angeles, beginning October 24. The movie was shot in VistaVision, offering audiences a visually immersive experience.

In Bugonia, two conspiracy-obsessed young men kidnap the CEO of a major corporation, believing she is an alien bent on destroying Earth. The film is an English-language remake of the 2003 South Korean cult hit Save the Green Planet! directed by Jang Joon-hwan.
Lanthimos, the acclaimed director behind films like Dogtooth (2009), The Lobster (2015), and The Favourite (2018), brings his signature offbeat style to Bugonia. Known for his dark humor and unique storytelling, Lanthimos is a five-time Academy Award nominee whose work continues to push creative boundaries.
The film stars Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons, Aidan Delbis, Stavros Halkias, and Alicia Silverstone. The screenplay was written by Will Tracy, best known for The Menu and Succession.
Bugonia is produced by Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe of Element Pictures, alongside Yorgos Lanthimos, Emma Stone, Ari Aster, Lars Knudsen, Miky Lee, and Jerry Kyoungboum Ko. As Lanthimos fans have come to expect, Bugonia promises to deliver a mix of absurdity and sharp wit that has become synonymous with the director’s name.
