The West End cast recording of Next to Normal will be released on May 30, 2025. Led by Caissie Levy, the album features the full original London cast and will be available on all major digital streaming platforms.

Fans can already find a Spotify listing for the release, where composer Tom Kitt has launched an official countdown ahead of the album’s debut. The original London cast recording includes 38 tracks capturing the emotional depth and intensity of the stage production.

This revival of the Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical began at the Donmar Warehouse before transferring to Wyndham’s Theatre in the West End for a limited run. Alongside Levy, the cast includes Jack Wolfe, Eleanor Worthington-Cox, Jamie Parker, Jack Ofrecio, and Trevor Dion Nicholas.

Directed by Michael Longhurst, Next to Normal tells the story of Diana Goodman, a mother living with bipolar disorder, as she and her family navigate the complexities of mental illness, memory, and grief. With music by Tom Kitt and book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey, the show continues to resonate with audiences for its honest and moving portrayal of mental health.

A filmed version of the production is already available for streaming on PBS On Demand. The performance was recorded during the show’s final weeks in September 2024, and a UK television broadcast is expected to follow.

The production earned six WhatsOnStage Award nominations, including Best New Musical. Jack Wolfe won Best Supporting Performer in a Musical for his role as Gabe.

Critics praised the production for its performances and emotional impact. Matt Wolf of The New York Times wrote, “The production boasts a genuine breakout star in the fresh-faced Jack Wolfe, who seizes the role of the antic son, Gabe, and brings a darting sense of danger whenever he appears on the two-tiered stage.”

Cindy Marcolina of BroadwayWorld called it “a heart-shatteringly extraordinary piece of theatre,” adding, “It has no heroes or villains, just ordinary people trying to survive intense heartache and the alienation of mental illness.”

Zachary Stewart of TheaterMania highlighted Caissie Levy’s performance: “At the center is Caissie Levy, who gives a frighteningly convincing performance of a woman who is both mentally unstable and intelligent enough to know how to make her delusions seem rational. The muted quality of Levy’s performance… I found it a stronger choice based in an undeniable truth. The mentally ill live and work among us, and it’s not always obvious who they are.”

The cast recording was developed under the musical supervision of Nigel Lilley. The creative team includes Chloe Lamford (design), Ann Yee (movement and additional direction), Lee Curran (lighting), Tony Gayle (sound), Tal Rosner (video design), orchestrations by Michael Starobin and Tom Kitt, and vocal arrangements by Annmarie Milazzo.

With its haunting music, raw storytelling, and powerful performances, the upcoming cast recording offers a moving new way to experience one of the most important musicals of the 21st century.
