Apple TV+ has renewed its critically acclaimed science fiction series Foundation for a fourth season. The announcement came ahead of the season three finale, which premiered globally on Friday, September 12, 2025. Production for season four is scheduled to begin in early 2026.
Based on Isaac Asimov’s award-winning stories and produced by Paramount Television Studios, Foundation has been praised by critics and audiences worldwide. Season three has been described as “the gold standard for all science fiction programming” and remains Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.

Season three stars Emmy-nominated actors Jared Harris and Lee Pace, along with Lou Llobell. New cast members include Cherry Jones, Brandon P. Bell, Synnøve Karlsen, Cody Fern, Tómas Lemarquis, Alexander Siddig, Troy Kotsur and Pilou Asbæk. Returning stars include Laura Birn, Cassian Bilton, Terrence Mann and Rowena King.
This season follows the growing power of the Foundation and the weakening Cleonic Empire. A new threat emerges in the form of a warlord known as the Mule. In the finale episode, titled “The Darkness,” Gaal and the Second Foundation face the Mule as the Emperor’s legacy suffers a catastrophic blow.
