Lady Gaga is back—and she’s dancing with the dead in her eerie new single, “The Dead Dance.”
The 14-time GRAMMY, Oscar, and Emmy winner just dropped the music video for the track, marking her first-ever creative collaboration with visionary director Tim Burton. Shot on Mexico’s infamous Isla de las Muñecas (Island of the Dolls), the cinematic visual is pure gothic fantasy—slipping between stark black-and-white and bursts of saturated color, while broken dolls and haunted glances swirl around Gaga’s commanding presence.

Produced by Gaga and Michael Polansky, alongside Burton and Natalie Testa, the video brings together an A-list creative team: iconic costume designer Colleen Atwood, choreographers Parris Goebel and Corey Baker, and Gaga herself at the center of it all—eerie, elegant, and electric.
“The Dead Dance” made its debut last night during Wednesday Season 2 (Part 2) on Netflix, where Gaga also appears in a darkly delicious cameo as Rosaline Rotwood.
“The inspiration for ‘The Dead Dance’ was a breakup, and it was all about the way that we sometimes feel when it’s over; how a relationship ending can kill our ability to feel hopeful about love,” Gaga shared. “It’s got this really cool, funky beat underneath it. And that is when the song becomes not just about the relationship; it becomes about having fun with your friends when you’ve been through something tough and amazing. I can’t wait for people to listen to it.”
Produced with Andrew Watt and Cirkut, the single has been met with instant acclaim. Billboard praised it as an “electro pop banger” with “funhouse keyboards,” Rolling Stone called it “soaring,” and NME celebrated its “infectious bassline” and “Thriller”-esque synths.
