Laura Bell Bundy and Kara Lindsay have been cast in the lead roles of Romy & Michele: The Musical, an Off-Broadway production based on the 1997 cult comedy Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion. PEOPLE was first to reveal the news in an exclusive report.
Bundy will take on the role of Romy White, originally played by Mira Sorvino, while Lindsay will portray Michele Weinberger, made famous by Lisa Kudrow. The production is set to begin previews at Stage 42 on October 14, with opening night scheduled for October 28.

Directed by Kristin Hanggi (Rock of Ages), the musical features a book by original screenwriter Robin Schiff and a pop-driven score inspired by the ’80s and ’90s, written by Gwendolyn Sanford and Brandon Jay. Keith Harrison Dworkin will handle orchestrations and musical supervision.
“I’m so excited to play this iconic role that all I’ve had for the past six days are gummy bears, jelly beans and candy corn,” said Bundy in a statement, referencing a well-known line from the film. She added, “It’s gonna be better than ‘OKAY … OKAY?’”
Lindsay shared her enthusiasm, saying, “I am absolutely thrilled to be bringing the iconic character of Michele to life for the New York stage debut of Romy & Michele: The Musical.” She continued, “Stepping into her wildly fun, unapologetically unique shoes is an honor, especially alongside the phenomenal Laura Bell Bundy!”
Additional cast members include Michael Thomas Grant, Jordan Kai Burnett, Pascal Pastrana, Je’Shaun Jackson, Lauren Ashley Zakrin, Erica Dorfler, DeMarius Copes, and Ninako Donville.
The musical follows Romy and Michele as they prepare for their ten-year high school reunion by reinventing themselves in an effort to impress former classmates — including falsely claiming they invented Post-Its. The story explores themes of friendship, identity, and self-acceptance.
Producers include Barry Kemp, Stephen Soucy, Peter Schneider, and Laurence Mark, with Showtown Productions serving as executive producer. Tickets for Romy & Michele: The Musical are currently on sale.
