The official trailer for Kiss of the Spider Woman has dropped, offering a closer look at Bill Condon’s feature adaptation of the rarely revived but much-revered stage musical.
Set in a 1981 Argentinian prison, the story follows Luis Molina, a gay hairdresser serving time for allegedly corrupting a minor. He forges an unlikely connection with his cellmate, Valentin Arregui Paz, a committed Marxist. To mentally escape the grim conditions, Molina immerses himself in elaborate fantasies starring a glamorous silver screen siren named Aurora.

Written and directed by Condon, the film is based on Terrence McNally’s stage book, itself adapted from Manuel Puig’s 1976 novel. Following its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, the film is set for theatrical release on October 10, 2025.
The original musical debuted in London’s West End in 1992 before transferring to Broadway in 1993, where it earned seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Featuring music by John Kander and Fred Ebb (Cabaret, Chicago), the score includes standout numbers such as “Dressing Them Up,” “She’s a Woman,” and the title song.
A new stage revival — the first in over three decades — is slated to tour next year, led by Anna-Jane Casey.
Kiss of the Spider Woman is produced by Barry Josephson, Tom Kirdahy, Greg Yolen and Matt Geller. Lopez produces alongside Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Benny Medina under the Nuyorican Productions banner.
Condon’s previous directing credits include Chicago, Dreamgirls, Beauty and the Beast and The Greatest Showman. Lopez’s film résumé features Selena, Maid in Manhattan and Hustlers.
Puig’s novel was previously adapted for the screen in 1985, with William Hurt winning an Oscar for his performance as Molina.
