Netflix is bringing the laughs this fall with Old Dog, New Tricks, a new comedy series starring Spanish actor Luis Zahera (Wrong Side of the Tracks, Unauthorized Living). The show drops October 3 and promises a heartwarming — and hilarious — look at what happens when life forces you way outside your comfort zone.
Zahera plays Antón, a no-nonsense rural veterinarian from Galicia whose career hits a rough patch when the local farming crisis leaves him with no paying clients. With nowhere else to turn, he takes a job from his upbeat niece Uxía (Lucía Caraballo, I Don’t Like Driving) at her trendy boutique pet store.

Think: colorful displays, gourmet pet food, and customers who treat their pets better than people. Antón’s new world is full of pampered pooches, hamster check-ups, and the kind of challenges he never faced on the farm. As the show puts it, “Adapting to change can be tough – especially when that change means going from treating cows to diagnosing a guinea pig’s dyslexia.”
The cast also features Carmen Ruiz (Love in Difficult Times) and Antonio Durán “Morris” (Cocaine Coast). Behind the scenes, the series is executive produced by Aitor Gabilondo (Patria, Muted) and Jota Aceytuno (Urban. La vida es nuestra), with direction by Alberto de Toro and Víctor García León. The script was penned by a team of writers including Ana Boyero, Araceli Álvarez de Sotomayor, Germán Aparicio, and Dani Castro (Episode 1).
Filmed entirely in Galicia, the fictional town of Topomorto comes to life through real locations in A Coruña, including Dioño, A Calle, Pontemaceira, Teo, Vedra, and Santiago de Compostela.
Old Dog, New Tricks is all about second chances, unexpected detours, and finding humor in the most unlikely places — even between dog grooming sessions.
