Roadside Attractions has released the first trailer for Twinless, the Audience Award-winning dark comedy from James Sweeney that premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival.
The film stars Sweeney and Dylan O’Brien as two men who meet at a support group for people grieving their twins. Roman (O’Brien) is mourning the loss of his twin brother, Rocky. At the group, he meets Dennis (Sweeney), and the two quickly form a close bond. As their friendship deepens, both men struggle with hidden secrets that threaten to surface.

“In Twinless, two young men meet in a twin support group and form an unlikely friendship,” a synopsis reads. “Roman and Dennis both search for solace and an identity without their other halves and soon become inseparable outside the group. But when Roman meets Dennis’ ebullient co-worker Marcie, all is revealed to be not what it seems, as each man harbors secrets that could unravel everything.”
The cast includes Lauren Graham, Aisling Franciosi, Tasha Smith, Chris Perfetti, François Arnaud, Susan Park, and Cree Cicchino. O’Brien, who plays both Roman and Rocky, also serves as an executive producer.
O’Brien received a special jury award for acting at Sundance. Speaking about his process, he said, “In the weeks preceding production, we had talked a lot about scheduling…we wanted to make sure that we were getting some kind of separation between the two parts. Just before the holiday, we shot one of the brothers, and then [we shot the other brother] after we had the holiday break, so I had about two-and-a-half, maybe three tops weeks between the guys. Today, on an independent production, that’s such a luxury to get.”
Twinless was produced by David Permut and Sweeney, with Republic Pictures developing the film. Roadside Attractions and Lionsgate will release it in theaters across North America on September 5.
